BABYMONSTER drop trailer for first mini-album, ‘BABYMONS7ER’
YG Entertainment rookie girl group BABYMONSTER have released their first mini-album ‘BABYMONS7ER’, alongside a music video for title track ‘Sheesh’.
Both the album and accompanying visual dropped earlier today (April 1), marking their first music as a seven-piece with the inclusion of Ahyeon, who previously was unable to debut with the rest of the band last year due to health concerns.
In the music video for the album’s title track, ‘Sheesh’, BABYMONSTER roam the halls of what looks to be an abandoned, haunted mansion, which later is revealed to be laid out like an elaborate maze.
“When I open my eyes I bloom / All eyes on me, set it on fire / Do or die on my life / Yeah, you ain’t seen nothing yet,” they belt on the pre-chorus, before the track drops to a hip-hop chorus.
Today’s release of ‘BABYMONS7ER’ will also mark the band’s second music release of the year, following the standalone single ‘Stuck In The Middle’ earlier this month. The band made their debut in late 2023 with the single ‘Batter Up’. Both of these releases did not include Ahyeon.
In a breakdown of the new mini-album by YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk prior to its release, the K-pop mogul revealed that B-side track ‘Like That’ was gifted to the group by Charlie Puth, after Ahyeon’s cover of his song ‘Dangerously’, released when she was still a trainee, went viral.
“Charlie Puth is an artist I really admire and the members are also big fans of him,” Yang said. “It’s a huge gift and I think the fans will also enjoy it.”
Other tracks on the album introduced and broken down by Yang include intro track ‘Monsters’, title track ‘Sheesh’ – described as a hip-hop track with “an element of darkness to it, something not presented by BABYMONSTER before” – and new versions of ‘Batter Up’ and ‘Stuck In The Middle’, re-recorded to include Ahyeon’s vocals.
