Brilliant Minds Season 1: Cast and Character Guide
NBC’s Brilliant Minds will premiere in September of the upcoming fall season.
While medical dramas are a dime a dozen, Brilliant Minds differs because it’s based on the real-life Dr. Oliver Wolf Sacks.
The series focuses on the larger-than-life neurologist who was not afraid to break the rules to help his patients live life to the fullest.
While the series focuses mainly on the protagonist, it also includes an exciting ensemble, including his old friend Dr. Pierce and his team of interns.
The team explores cases related to the human mind while examining their own mental health issues and relationships.
With real-life inspiration, rich characters, and a talented cast, we hope this series lasts for many seasons. Meet the cast and characters in Brilliant Minds.
Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto)
Zachary Quinto plays Dr. Wolf, the new head of neurology at Bronx General, and is an obsessive genius.
He’s drawn to people in society that others have given up on and helps them find hope and purpose again. He embraces the differences instead of stopping them.
Dr. Wolf struggles with opening up about his own difficulties, which include having facial blindness.
Quinto gained stardom for portraying serial killer Sylar on NBC’s Heroes, where he appeared all four seasons.
He’s also most well-known for portraying young Spock in the J.J. Abrams reboot of the Star Trek films.
He brought such a layered performance to a complex role that he reprised it in all of the franchise’s films and the documentary For the Love of Spock.
Quinto has also dabbled in theatre and debuted on London’s West End Stage in 2022, starring in James Graham’s new play Best of Enemies.
He’s sure to bring his wealth of experience to Dr. Wolf.
Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry)
Perry will portray Dr. Carol Pierce, Wolf’s long-time friend since medical school and the head of psychology at Bronx Hospital.
She recruits Wolf to work with her at the hospital, hoping to create a neuropsychology dream team and help patients that others have considered hopeless.
As Wolf’s closest friend, she knows him better than most and often has to mediate when others don’t understand his vision.
Perry has appeared in many television series, including All American: Homecoming, as Keena Sims, Damon’s mom.
Perry was recently seen as Alexandra in the Hulu Death and Other Details series and the Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone.
She and her husband, Kevin Douglas, have an improv comedy show, The Tam & Kevin Show, that is shown on Second City’s YouTube channel.
Perry can do comedy and carry dramatic scenes, so her scenes opposite Quinto will be entertaining.
Dr. Josh Nichols (Teddy Sears)
Sears will portray Dr. Josh Nichols, a neurosurgeon who left a private practice in San Francisco to work at Bronx Hospital.
He is clinical and technical, the exact opposite of Wolf, and the two will butt heads with how they treat patients often.
While they form a competitive relationship, eventually, the two men develop a grudging respect for one another.
Sears started his acting career with a two-year contract role on the soap opera One Life to Live.
He has appeared in many television series, with some of his more significant roles being as Jay Garrick, the original Flash on The Flash. He later returned to The Flash as Zoom, the Black Flash.
Sears also starred as Dr. Austin Langham in Masters of Sex and Keith Mullins in 24: Legacy.
He’s played the antagonist before, so seeing what he brings to this role and the conflicts Dr. Nichols and Dr. Wolf will have will be fun.
Dr. Van Markus (Alex MacNicoll)
He experiences a burst of confidence when Dr. Wolf trusts him with responsibilities but falters when he learns his boss is studying his condition.
Macnicoll gained stardom when he recently appeared as Luke in Netflix’s The Society.
This is his first series regular role on network television.
Dr. Ericka Kinney (Ashleigh LaThrop)
LaThrop plays Dr. Ericka Kinney, a first-year intern who always plays by the rules.
Now, with Dr. Wolf as her attending, Ericka is thrown into an unpredictable environment while trying to keep a deep secret from her fellow interns.
Ericka often acts like the interns’ leader, trying to mediate between them and get them to work as a team for a common goal.
LaThrop has extensive acting experience, including a supporting role in the Fifty Shades franchise, appearing as Hannah.
She transitioned to TV and, in 2020, had the lead role in Prime Videos’ Utopia. She also worked on The Kominsky Method and earned an SAG nomination for Best Ensemble Comedy Cast.
LaThrop most recently voiced Iris West in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths-Part One.
LaThrop is as ambitious as her character and enjoys traveling abroad and learning new languages.
Dr. Jacob Nash (Spence Moore II)
Jacob worries that he suffered from concussion-related brain trauma and self-medicates to deal with his fear.
He sometimes acts like a jerk to his fellow interns to mask his fear.
Moore has appeared in several television series, beginning with Facebook Watch’s Five Points in 2017. In this series, he states that working with Kerry Washington was life-changing.
Moore has recurred on The CW’s All American as Chris Jackson, one of Spencer James’ oldest friends throughout the series.
He also appeared on Superman & Lois Season 3 as Matteo Manheim, the son of Bruno and Peia Mannheim, and the love interest of Natalie Irons.
While recurring on All American, Moore was part of HBO’s coming-of-age series We Are Who We Are. He played Danny Poythress, trying to discover his heritage and learn Islam while fitting in with his friends.
Dr. Dana Dang( Aury Krebs)
While Dana is honest about her anxiety, she’d rather pop a Xanax than figure out the root of her issues.
Krebs guest-starred on Prime Video’s Leverage: Redemption. However, most of her acting experience has been on stage, including in a new musical, Hood.
Krebs recorded a song, “There is a Bunny on the Moon,” in July 2022 for The Rainbow Lullaby, the world’s first LGBTQIA+ lullaby album.
With this talented cast, Brilliant Minds will be another hit. We’re very excited to see how it unfolds.
