What Is The Next Move for Will Trent?
In Will Trent‘s Season 2 polarizing Season 2 finale, Will arrested Angie for being an accessory to murder since Crystal killed so many sex offenders.
While Angie didn’t learn of Crystal’s part in the murders until the end, she covered up Crystal’s first murder, Lenny, who had sexually abused both women. If she had gotten Crystal some help, she might not have gone on a killing spree.
It was such an intriguing case, and going into Season 3, it will affect not only Will and Angie but also the GBI and the APD.
Can Will and Angie Find Their Way Back?
That was the ultimate cliffhanger, having Will arrest Angie. It divided the characters and the fans.
While Angie suspected Will might learn of her involvement, she hoped he would choose her this time, and when she sobbed that line, it broke my heart.
While many people understood the situation’s complexity, Will saw the case in black and white. However, as he envisioned his future with Angie, we saw what he was giving up since they were finally happy.
Can they be happy again? It’s difficult to forgive your partner after he arrests you. However, stuff like this happens often in soap operas, and couples eventually make the long road back.
Angie and Will seem fated to be together. The younger version of Angie even knew Will would turn her in, while those flashforwards may mean something.
While the two spend time apart, Will will work with the assistant DA Marion Alba, played by Gina Rodriguez. In the usual trope, the two dislike each other but are forced to work together.
We’re unsure if the series is setting up a love triangle, but it could be entertaining.
Will the Series Make Angie Darker?
Angie has spent the last two seasons working on her sobriety and becoming a better person.
In the Will Trent Season 2 finale, she even confided to Franklin that reuniting with Will gave her a reason to stay sober.
Losing Will could trigger Angie to fall off the wagon. In the past, she talked about staying busy so she wouldn’t mess up. Losing her job at APD could also hinder her sobriety.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Angie is darker and meaner in the Will Trent novels, and losing everything could set her on that course.
Erika Christensen has excelled at adding more layers to Angie’s character and would be fantastic at adding a darker aspect. However, it would be hard to watch Angie ridicule Will for his dyslexia or resort to hurtful pranks on him or his new love interest.
Ideally, the series will find a way for Angie to express her anger and work through her issues without becoming as mean as the book version is.
Will the Series Showcase Angie’s Consequences in Real-Time?
If Will Trent Season 3 airs like Season 2 did, there could be a seven- to eight-month time jump again, and they’ll be airing episodes in real time.
While we don’t need to watch every detail of Angie’s arrest, it would be disappointing to skip over the drama of seeing her in jail or a trial. The ending scenes implied that the captain of APD and Franklin would fight for her, so it would be interesting to see someone defend her.
After the finale, co-showrunners Liz Helden and Daniel Thomsen teased that they wanted to show that the judicial system works differently for cops, especially ones with extenuating circumstances like Angie was in with Lenny.
We’re unsure if we’ll see an actual trial or if Angie will lose her job or face other consequences.
Angie has a passion for helping survivors of sex crimes, especially teenagers. If she can’t work at APD or GBI, she may become a private investigator.
How Will the Dynamics Shift at the GBI and APD Shift?
We’ll assume that Angie won’t return to APD or get promoted to the GBI anymore.
With one person down, will there be an APD, or will they combine forces with the GBI?
Currently, most of the APD blame Will for Angie’s arrest, which could make for an awkward working environment, especially with Franklin and Det. Ormewood in his ear.
I suspect Amanda and Faith will be the only ones supporting Will.
We know that he disappeared in the aftermath, so we’ll likely return to lots of drama.
What’s Ahead for the Rest of the Team?
We don’t know as much about the rest of the team, especially Amanda, though hopefully, they will delve more into her backstory again.
Season 2 explored character arcs for all the characters, and exploring the problems in Michael’s marriage softened his character and allowed him to become a more hands-on father.
In the Season 2 finale, his wife Gina returned, demanding a divorce and full custody of the kids. While Will Trent doesn’t usually showcase court cases, highlighting some of the custody cases would be entertaining.
It would show how much Michael has changed, and the actors that play his on-screen children are delightful.
Faith was the only one who ended Season 2 in a happy place. She had always put her career or raising Jeremy first but finally found love and happiness with Luke.
Ideally, the series will expand on that in Season 3.
There is no reason Faith can’t have it all. I’d love to see the series tackle Faith getting pregnant like the books did and how she handled that with her job and diabetes.
It’s a relatable storyline that many would appreciate.
I know we still have a long road ahead of us, but we’re in this together. What do you hope to see in Season 3?
We always love hearing your thoughts, so please share them below.
