Abbott Elementary, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Set Crossover
Abbott Elementary is crossing paths with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The creative minds behind the two comedy series are teaming up for a crossover episode.
Sunny star and creator Rob McElhenney confirmed the news in an Instagram post and story on Thursday. He shared a photo of himself with Sunny star Charlie Day and Abbott star and creator Quinta Brunson posing in what appeared to be the Warner Bros. lot where Abbott films. He captioned the photo simply: “Oh. Hello.”
In an IG story, McElhenney posted another photo that also included Sunny star Danny DeVito along with Abbott stars Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.
The news follows months of speculation that something was in the works involving both series. In July at Comic-Con, Brunson teased that Abbott would be featuring a crossover episode but offered little in the way of detail apart from saying it would air during the show’s fourth season, which premieres Oct. 9.
“We will be doing an interesting crossover this season … but I’m not going to tell you with who or with what or where or when or how,” Brunson said at the time. “But it’s really exciting, and I think it’ll change television as we know it.”
Abbott and Sunny are both part of the Disney family: The former airs on ABC, while the latter calls FX home. In addition, they are both set in Philadelphia. Sunny also premiered its 16th season last summer.
Both Sunny and Abbott were represented at last month’s Emmy Awards. Married Sunny stars McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson presented at the show, where Abbott Elementary was up for numerous Emmys, including best comedy series.
