‘American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson and George Huff Give Reunion Performance

More than two decades after they met on Season 3 of American Idol in 2004, Jennifer Hudson and George Huff reunited on stage earlier this summer. While looking back on the past few months, Hudson reflected on the special moment by posting a clip of the performance to Instagram, which she captioned with “#summerrewind.”

Hudson also wrote, “Singing “Superstar” with my friend and nobody else’s @georgehuff4real!” The performance took place in Atlanta in June during Hudson’s tour with Josh Groban.

“One of my favorites live performance from the summer concert with you and Josh groban, I even voted for this song,” one fan commented.  “you and @georgehuff4real were phenomenal together!!” Huff also popped into the comments section to say, “I love you friend!!!! I will cherish this moment for thee rest of my life!!!!”

While Hudson has gone on to become an EGOT winner, she controversially came in seventh place on her season of Idol. Huff outlasted her in the competition, finishing in fifth place. Fantasia Barrino went on to win the show, followed by Diana DeGarmo as runner-up.

Hudson and Huff have maintained a close friendship since their time on Idol. In 2024, he surprised her backstage at her talk show, interrupting her as she spoke to viewers while walking through the set. “Where you come from!?” a shocked Hudson asked in the video clip. “Ah, this is my friend and nobody else’s, Mr. George Huff. That’s all I ever needed!”

In addition to being friends, Huff has also been a backup singer for Hudson on many different occasions. He currently works as a writer, actor, and vocal coach, according to his Instagram bio. His most recent music release was the song “The Chase” in 2020.

Hudson, meanwhile, continues to host The Jennifer Hudson Show, while also acting and singing. Her last album was released in 2024.
