The ceremony was initially due to take place on September 10 in New York but was recently rescheduled to September 11 to avoid clashing with the televised presidential debate, which will be the first time candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will face off against each other.
Now, it’s been announced that Halsey and Kravitz will join previously announced performers Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla and Rauw Alejandro — all of whom are up for awards this year.
Benson Boone and Blackpink‘s Lisa were also announced as performers yesterday (August 21).
Halsey will perform a song from her upcoming fifth studio album, while Kravitz’s performance will mark his first time playing on the VMA stage in 25 years. He’s also nominated for Best Rock.
In other categories, Taylor Swift and Post Malone are leading the nominations for the MTV VMAs this year with 19 nominations between them.
Swift is out in front with 10, while Malone only has one fewer, with nine – and many of their nominations are for ‘Fortnight’, Swift’s song which features Malone. Among the other artists to have multiple nominations are Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem, and Ariana Grande, who all have six each.
Both Swift and Eminem are up for the most prestigious award of the night, Video of the Year. Four-time winner Swift is the current award holder, for ‘Anti-Hero’, while Eminem has received a record seven nominations for the award over the years. Also up for the award are Grande, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and SZA.
Artist of the Year, meanwhile, is between Swift, Eminem, Grande, SZA, Carpenter and Bad Bunny, while Song of the Year is between Swift, Carpenter, Beyoncé, Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar and Teddy Swims.
Olivia Rodrigo and Lisa, of K-pop group BLACKPINK, received four nominations like Swims, while Boone, Dua Lipa, Anitta, Tyla, Bleachers and GloRilla are all on three. The likes of Cardi B & Shakira and Rauw Alejandro join Anitta and Bad Bunny in the Best Latin category, while Megan Thee Stallion and Travis Scott are among the Best Hip-Hop nominees.
Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Green Day and Lenny Kravitz are all nominated for Best Rock, while Hozier and Linkin Park are in Best Alternative.
Elsewhere, Katy Perry will receive the Video Vanguard Award, joining a prestigious lineup of previous winners including Missy Elliott, Rihanna, Beyoncé and last year’s winner Shakira. Perry will also be returning to the VMA stage after seven years to perform a string of her biggest hits in celebration of the award.
