Lana Del Rey debuts new song and Quavo collab at Fenway Park show, delayed and evacuated due to weather

Lana Del Rey has debuted a new song and collaboration with Quavo during her recent slot at Fenway Park. Find footage of the gig below.

The slot took place last night (June 20), as the singer took to the stage for a career-spanning set at the festival in Boston. It was very nearly axed, however, as extreme weather conditions led to the site being evacuated shortly before the gig and the performance being pushed back.

Originally, Del Rey was supposed to head on stage at 8:30pm, but she soon took to social media to explain that the timings had been pushed back. “They are holding off the show until 9:00 because of the wind warnings. See you soon,” she wrote.

By 9pm, she still hadn’t taken to the stage, and went on to post another update on the situation: “So I’m down here at the bottom of Fenway, I have everyone here, they just cleared the stage. Every time the lightning strikes we have to wait 20 minutes and it just keeps striking,” she explained.

“So what we were hoping for was to fill the room back up by 10 o’clock, at least do an hour-long show, um, that’s what we were hoping for bare minimum. Worst case scenario we reschedule for Saturday. I’m crossing my fingers. And I’m down here with all the girls, just hoping.”

She also posted a poll on Instagram, asking if fans would rather have a shorter show on the night, starting at 10:30pm, or see her perform for longer the following day. After fans voted for the former, she took to the stage for an abbreviated set (via Newsweek).

During the set, she managed to fit in 15 songs in – despite curfew restrictions – and opened with an unreleased, never-heard-before track. While the title remains unknown, and it isn’t certain when Del Rey is looking to release the track, she was heard in the show singing the lyrics “Past, present, future/ Jesus saves and I just worship/ A thousand ways”.

From there, she broke out tracks including ‘Summertime Sadness’, ‘Cherry’, ‘Born To Die’ and more, before rounding off the gig with a collaboration with Atlanta rapper Quavo. Taking to the stage towards the end of the gig, the two joined forces to bring out the live debut of their new single ‘Tough’, which was first previewed by them on Wednesday (June 19).

Elsewhere, Del Rey also brought out two other special guests for the show – TikTok singer Stephen Sanchez, and famous former Walmart Yodelling Boy Mason Ramsey. With Sanchez, they teamed up to deliver a moving duet of his song ‘Until I Found You’, and with Ramsey they sang his recently released single ‘Blue Over You’.

Lana Del Rey’s Fenway Park setlist was:

Unreleased track, title not known
‘Without You’
‘West Coast’
‘Summertime Sadness’
‘Cherry’
‘Pretty When You Cry’
‘Blue Over You’ (Mason Ramsey cover with Mason Ramsey)
‘Ride’
‘Born to Die’
‘Chemtrails Over the Country Club’
‘The Grants’
‘Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd’
‘Until I Found You’ (Stephen Sanchez cover) (with Stephen Sanchez)
‘Tough’ (with Quavo, live debut; unreleased)
‘Video Games’

It is currently unclear if ‘Tough’ will feature on Lana’s upcoming album ‘Lasso’, or if it will part of a larger Quavo project. It also remains uncertain if either Ramsey or Sanchez will appear on the forthcoming country album.

Del Rey announced news of the album earlier this year, and while the LP has yet to receive a release date, the singer did speak to NME‘s Andrew Trendell in May. Though she didn’t reveal much about the album, Lana suggested that the album’s lyrics might be lighter than her more recent output.

“I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and just more melodic. Maybe more American Songbook style?”

She also opened up about a potential sense of vindication around the new project. “Maybe three years ago there would have been a sense of vindication, but now it just feels playful. I don’t know why,” she explained, looking at her recent successes. “If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here.  It’s easy-going in that way.”

Lana Del Rey is due to headline Reading & Leeds 2024 over the upcoming August bank holiday (23-25). She’ll play Reading on Saturday, August 24 and Leeds on Sunday, August 25. Tickets are available to buy here.
