Live Nation and Crew Nation to commit million to support music community impacted by LA wildfires

Live Nation and Crew Nation have announced that they will be pledging $1million (£813,355) to help support those in the music industry affected by the LA wildfires.

The devastating wildfires began on January 7, leaving more than 150,000 residents in Los Angeles forced to evacuate their homes. At time of writing, 27 confirmed deaths have been reported and over 20 people have been reported missing.

Now, in a bid to help those impacted from across the music community, the Crew Nation Global Relief Fund will be donating the money to help assist performing musicians, live music crew, and live music industry workers.

Crew Nation was established by Live Nation Entertainment back in 2020 – back when live music was put on hold during the pandemic – and has spent the last five years delivering aid to those in the music world who are undergoing unforeseen hardships. Already, over 16,000 crew members have been supported by the efforts, and $10million (£8.13m) has been contributed by Live Nation, as has $8million from artists, fans, and industry partners.

The latest efforts for those affected by the wildfires mean that financial grants have been organised. Here, individuals currently employed within the industry facing displacement expenses due to mandatory evacuation orders, damage, or loss can apply for grants up to $5,000 (£4,066).

“L.A. is home to so many who help make live music possible,” said Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment. “Crew Nation is continuing its core mission of helping this hardworking community through unforeseen hardship.” You can visit here to apply for the Crew Nation Fund grants.

Separately from Crew Nation, Live Nation is also making moves to support those impacted by the disasters. The company is supporting the employees from the LA headquarters with direct relief through its Taking Care Of Our Own programme.

It is also helping to promote the upcoming FireAid show – a benefit concert set for next Thursday (January 30) that will raise funds to help rebuild communities and support fire prevention efforts.

The artists featured on the ‘Staying’ compilation record aren’t the only musicians to aid the affected communities in the aftermath of the fires.

A slew of A-list musicians including Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Green Day and more will be performing at the event, and you can check out the current line-up here.

Since the fires began, efforts have been made from other famous figures in the music industry to help those affected. Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD foundation, for example, donated $2.5million to help relief efforts. Paris Hilton also launched a fund for families displaced by the fires, pledging $100,000 and promised to match up to $100,000 in donations.

Dave Grohl last week spent his birthday making meals for families that had been affected, while Canadian metal band Spiritbox announced a charity raffle to raise funds for victims.

Elsewhere, American-Mexican band Fuerza Regida rented out an entire hotel for a week to shelter 50 families, and members of the LA music community recently spoke to NME about being hit hard, and described the number of venues, studios and artists being affected by the blaze.
