Joanna Lohman is competing on Season 39 of The Amazing Race with her friend and former soccer teammate, Ali Krieger. But back home, both ladies have people who they’re running the race for.

For Lohman, that’s her wife, Melodie George, whom she married in 2021. During Episode 2 of the race, Lohman gave George a special shout-out when she revealed that it was their wedding anniversary. Krieger and Lohman finished that leg of the race in first place.

Who is Joanna Lohman’s wife?

George is a senior director for strategic communications and marketing for the American Association of Port Authorities in Washington, D.C., per LinkedIn. She previously worked for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 2017 to 2023.

Lohman’s wife graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a degree in English literature and political science. She then received her master’s degree in print and digital media from New York University.

The women got engaged in January 2020 and tied the knot on September 25, 2021.

It’s unclear exactly when or how Lohman and George met, but Lohman reflected on the early days of their relationship in a 2024 Instagram post. “It started with a 5-hr first date,” she wrote. “I brought a mini elephant black board I got from the dentist’s office that day. We took turns writing questions on it for the other to answer. She ordered a martini with 3 olives. I ordered a Manhattan with 3 cherries.”

She revealed that she and George became official “just before Christmas,” after which Lohman went on a two-week trip with a major time difference, but still spoke to George every single day.

“She sent me champagne to my hotel in Borneo and I used it as a chaser when I tried durian for the first time,” Lohman added. “I paid for her to have dinner with her best friends. Apart but together.”

Yes, Lohman and George are parents to a daughter named Luna. George gave birth to the baby girl in January 2023.

“We welcomed Luna Elham Lohman into the world yesterday morning at 6:54am weighing 5lbs 15 oz. She is small and MIGHTY with an amazing head of hair!” Lohman wrote. “Melodie is an absolute champion and recovering well. We feel incredibly grateful for all the support over the 9+ months and all the love showered upon her already! She is one lucky girl.”

Who else has Joanna Lohman dated?

When Lohman was 21, she was engaged to a man. She said in a 2018 profile that she thought of herself as straight well into college (she graduated in 2003), but she eventually realized she was in love with a woman.

“I always say I got hit by the gay stick and came flying out of the closet,” she joked. “From that point on, it wasn’t all roses and cotton candy, but I knew I was a lesbian, and I wanted to live that life authentically.”

From 2010 to 2014, Lohman was in a relationship with Lianne Sanderson, her Philadelphia Independence teammate. They were engaged before their breakup.
