The latest evening news ratings are in, and it’s better news for Tony Dokoupil, as CBS Evening News finished the week of April 27 up in both total viewers and the key Adults 25-54 demographic.
According to AdWeek, citing national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, CBS Evening News averaged 3.862 million total viewers and 541,000 demo viewers for the week of April 27. This was up 2 percent in total viewers and up 16 percent in the demo compared to the week before.
The show also posted year-over-year gains, with total viewers up 6 percent and the demo up 12 percent compared to the same period in 2025, when John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois helmed the program. Dokoupil took over as anchor on January 5 after he was promoted from CBS Mornings by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss.
NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas also saw gains in the key demo and total viewers. For the week of April 27, the show averaged 6.231 million total viewers and 928,000 demo viewers. This was up 1 percent in total viewers and up 12 percent in the demo compared to the previous week.
The program was also up 6 percent in total viewers and up 7 percent in the demo compared to the same period last year. Nightly News finished in the No. 2 spot, but it continued to close the gap on ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, with just 76,000 viewers separating the two shows in the key demo.
ABC World News Tonight averaged 8.3 million total viewers and 1.004 million demo viewers for the week of April 27. While the show finished as No. 1, it was the only broadcast down from the previous week. The show dropped 3 percent in total viewers and 5 percent in the key demo.
However, World News Tonight was up from the same period in 2025, with an 18 percent increase in total viewers and a 3 percent increase in the demo.
