Watch Andrew Scott star in dramatic video for Sam Fender’s “masterpiece of a song” ‘People Watching’

Sam Fender has recruited actor Andrew Scott to star in the dramatic music video for his single ‘People Watching’. Check it out below.

The single was initially shared back in November as the Geordie singer, songwriter and guitarist announced his forthcoming album of the same name. The record is set to arrive on February 21, 2025 via Polydor and you can pre-order it here.

Now, following on from two more singles – ‘Wild Long Lie’ and ‘Arm’s Length’ – Fender has shared the long-awaited music video for the title track, starring All Of Us Strangers’ actor Andrew Scott.

The appearance in the visual accompaniment comes following the BAFTA and Laurence Olivier Award-winning Irish actor starring in Emmy-nominated Netflix limited series Ripley; and the West End production of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.

Speaking about what it was like to work with Fender to make the music video, Scott described the track as a “masterpiece” and shared his appreciation for the musician.

“Sam’s masterpiece of a song has become a true friend to me,” he began. “Working on it was truly cathartic, and I’ll always be grateful to Sam for his extraordinary talent, and for the other artists who made this film, and of course to my mum, who I will hold in my heart ‘til the day I die.”

Explaining how the collaboration came together, Fender recalled his joy at discovering that the actor wanted to work with him. “I’m really excited for the ‘People Watching’ video to be out in the world this week,” he began. “I was so buzzing when I found out Andrew wanted to be involved – I’m a huge fan of his and he was absolutely perfect for the role.”

In the video, which was directed by Stuart McIntyre in Long Beach, California, the Dublin-born actor captures the heart-wrenching feelings of lost love captured in the track. Check it out above.

The video arrives just days after it was confirmed that Fender is among those set to perform at the 2025 edition of BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend. Set to take place at Sefton Park in Liverpool between May 23 and May 25, the festival will also see performances from Blossoms, Lola Young, Wet Leg and BRITs Rising Star 2025 winner Myles Smith.

As for his upcoming album, ‘People Watching’ will mark Fender’s first LP since 2021’s sophomore album ‘Seventeen Going Under’, and has been teased by the artist since March 2024, when he shared footage of himself, producers, engineers and other musicians in the studio.

Last November the Newcastle singer also announced details of some huge UK stadium shows for this summer, including his biggest-ever headline concert at London Stadium on June 6.

Following the show in the UK capital, he’ll head back to Newcastle for three shows at St. James’ Park on June 12, 14 and 15. This marks his first return to the 52,000-capacity venue back since 2023, and will also see him break the record for most headline shows there – a title previously held by rock veterans The Rolling Stones.

You can find a full list of 2025 tour dates here, and visit here for remaining tickets to all upcoming shows. For upcoming UK dates, £1 from each ticket will be donated to Music Venue Trust.

In other Sam Fender news, the musician was recently nominated for two BRIT Awards including Artist Of The Year, and teamed up with Newcastle United to auction off Carabao Cup shirts, with the funds raised going to charity.
