We’ll mostly be playing at small clubs
Jack White has shared details about how he plans to tour his new album ‘No Name’, revealing that he’ll “mostly be playing at small clubs”.
The soloist and former White Stripes frontman has performed a string of intimate shows recently in support of his surprise sixth studio album, which was given a wider release earlier this month.
White kicked off the run of dates at the American Legion Post 82 bar in Nashville, Tennessee late last month before taking to the stage in Atlanta and Athens ahead of some European festival appearances. He then played another Nashville gig last night (August 13).
Taking to social media yesterday, the singer-songwriter posted a statement about how the recent small shows are part of a wider unconventional tour in support of ‘No Name’.
White wrote: “Hello, and love to all the peoples of the world out there. Lotta folk asking about when we are going to announce ‘tour dates’, well, we don’t know what to tell you but the tour already started at the Legion a couple of weeks ago.
“People keep saying that these are ‘Pop up shows’ we’ve been playing, well, you can call them whatever you want, but we are on tour right now.”
He continued: “These are the ‘shows’. We won’t really be announcing dates in advance so much, we will mostly be playing at small clubs, back yard fetes, and a few festivals here and there to help pay for expenses.”
As for when fans can expect news on further performances and locations, White explained: “Shows will be announced as close to the show date as possible, some shows we won’t even decide to do until that morning.
“I also want to walk through orchard fields and grab apples off of trees at will and fill my belly full of that fruit if the desire strikes me. I’m looking for that cool breeze you know?
“Lots of love and rock and roll to you all and you are blessed for giving that love to others, we hope that we see you out on the road soon, if not let’s get coffee and a slice of pie sometime? Music is sacred.”
He signed off as ‘Johnny Guitar (Archbishop Harold Holm3s) III’. Check out the full statement in the post above.
In a four-star review of ‘No Name’, NME called the album White’s “punkiest outing since White Stripes”, adding: “This is an ode to the mystique of rock’n’roll and to the joy of music at its most physical and playful.
“Teasing doesn’t always lead to satisfaction. Just cut to the chase – and this one’s a bone-rattling ride. White’s revelling in the real world and has made it a much more thrilling place.”
